Calling all Swimmers and Paddlers Worldwide to Join us for The 2022 World Drowning Prevention Day Got2Swim & Paddle
This is a global swimming and paddling virtual event that begins on Monday, July 18, and culminates on World Drowning Prevention Day (Monday, July 25).
Then, on Monday, July 25, join us for food, drinks, and fun at the World Drowning Prevention Day Party at Freestyle Swim Studio in Austin, TX from 5-8pm! [RSVP HERE | MAP – 11190 Circle Dr Suite 208, Austin, TX 78736]
The goal is to raise awareness and funds for drowning prevention by mobilizing swimmers and paddlers all over the world to participate. Perhaps even have a few friendly challenges between participants from different countries.
We will do our best to flood social media with drowning prevention and water safety messages as our participants swim and paddle- showing the world that together we can prevent drowning. One mile at a time.
Drowning is a preventable global epidemic.
Each year, over 236,000 people around the world are lost to preventable drowning.
All ages.
All races.
All genders.
All socioeconomic levels.
All kinds of water.
The Swim and Paddle will be conducted at the participants’ preferred location.
Participants choose their distance – completing it all at one time or throughout July 18 through July 25th (World Drowning Prevention Day)
Participants should sign up to become a Quester at https://www.questify.ai/quest/colins-hope-swim-paddle-quest-2022 and can choose to raise pledges through that platform. All donations support Colin’s Hope and its year-round water safety drowning prevention initiatives. **Donations made to a registered participant are tax-deductible. Donors will receive an automated receipt at the time of donation.
It is important to connect participants to the cause, each athlete is encouraged to swim in honor of a person who has lost their life to a fatal drowning or survived a non-fatal drowning. You can read some of the stories in the Families United Not One More Stories Collection here (scroll to the bottom of the page for an electronic book).

SWIMMING SAFETY FOR VIRTUAL SWIMMERS AND TRAINING SWIMS
No one is drown-proof. Colin’s Hope encourages participants to familiarize themselves with the safety suggestions below. If you have any questions regarding these tips, please reach us at [email protected].
- All open water swimmers are encouraged to have a Water Guardian paddle alongside them during their swim(s) as a safety measure to support swim needs (hydration, nutrition, directional guidance, etc.) and to assist in the case of an emergency. The Water Guardian should paddle alongside the swimmer in a kayak/SUP for the duration of a swim. All Water Guardians are strongly encouraged to wear a properly fitted and buckled U.S. Coast Guard Approved life jacket at all times.
- ALL POOL SWIMMERS are strongly encouraged to have a Water Guardian be a lifeguard on duty or, at a minimum, another competent undistracted adult Water Watcher is committed to keeping watch for the duration of your swim(s).
- It is strongly recommended that ALL SWIMMERS never swim alone.
- It is strongly recommended that ALL SWIMMERS use a SaferSwimmer flotation/training device for all open water swims. This float adds to visibility and safety when training in open water where there is boat traffic. (Safer Swimmer flotation/training devices can be purchased through the Colin’s Hope web store)
